Volunteer Sign-Up Form for Picket Line Support

The Community Union Defence League (CUDL) is committed to fostering solidarity and support within the community, particularly in backing workers and their rights. Recognising the need to streamline and enhance our ability to mobilise community support for workers on the picket lines, CUDL has introduced a new form specifically designed for workers to submit requests for community support and resources during their picket actions.

This form allows CUDL to organise support efficiently by gathering all necessary details such as the location, time, and specific needs of the picket line. This structured approach ensures that resources are directed where they are most needed without duplication of efforts. Every picket line has unique needs depending on the number of participants, the duration of the picket, and specific logistical requirements. Capturing these details enables CUDL to tailor the support—be it food, beverages, or logistical supplies—accordingly.

By formalising the request process, CUDL encourages greater community involvement. The form acts as a bridge, connecting community members who wish to show solidarity with workers actively engaged in disputes or negotiations. It helps in the proper allocation of resources and volunteer efforts. Knowing in advance the scale and scope of the picket allows for better planning and prevents wastage of food and materials. Additionally, this approach helps in documenting the support activities, which is crucial for assessing the impact of solidarity efforts and for reporting back to the community and stakeholders about how their contributions have been used.

The form also promotes a proactive culture of support within the labour movement, reinforcing the idea that the community stands ready to support workers, not just in spirit but in very practical and necessary ways during times of action. The introduction of this form is a strategic step by CUDL to ensure that support for picket lines is not only prompt and effective but also a demonstration of the power of collective action and community solidarity. It underscores CUDL’s commitment to strengthening the bonds between workers and their community, ensuring that no group has to stand alone during critical times of need.
